Ong Lai Pineapple Cake – Box of 4 (29 Sep)
The unassuming pineapple has suddenly been thrust in the limelight as the fruit of the season and a chosen symbol in the presidential election as an indication of a new prosperous future to come. (The Hokkien word for “pineapple” is a homonym for “fortune comes”.)
With the pineapple making the headlines every day, I couldn’t resist baking a new pineapple-inspired cake and shared it with friends who loved it so much, they urged me to include it in TBF’s menu.
So, say hello to the ‘Ong Lai’ Cake, a propitious and welcome to the new TBF Family, as we celebrate Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam as Singapore’s 9th President, and a new-found reverence for the pineapple!
The Ong Lai Pineapple Cake is a moist, fluffy sensation with a tantalizing tang, an ideal choice for breakfast, afternoon tea, or dessert, especially when paired with a scoop of velvety vanilla ice cream.
For the ultimate indulgence, remember to allow the cake to reach room temperature or have it warmed up, enabling the natural oils within the cake to delight your taste buds.
Ingredients: French butter, flour, sugar, egg, milk, salt, pineapple, lime.
Each mini loaf measures 6.5cm(W) x 11cm(L) x 5cm (H).
